The Design Process

Graphic Design

I began ignite with a vague idea of my interests, but the more I tried to pin point one specific passion project, the harder it became to choose. As I really enjoyed following the design process and making a product in PDT, that became the basis of my project. After a bit of thinking, I developed this idea to incorporate the design of tote bags and t-shirts, with the addition of phone cases in the later weeks. For my project, I drew the designs on my iPad using the program Procreate and used a Cricut machine to cut the vinyl that I was then able to iron on to clothes and stick onto phone cases.

Design Folio

Prior to drawing the actual designs, I created a design folio similar to the ones I created in PDT to gain a clear direction for my final designs. As seen within the images above, I researched current trends and collated images to gain inspiration. I also created a brand by the name of edge. to form the basis of my designs.

As seen in the images above, l tested my designs on various items with different variations of the designs to see which looks best prior to making.

I used the machine on the right, a Cricut, to bring my designs to life. The final designs can be seen on the home page and the final design page. Although being in lockdown allowed me to spend more time making and perfecting my designs, it made it difficult to make them as I had to click and collect the t-shirts, tote bags and phone cases, and I wasn’t able to buy vinyl, so I had to make do with the colours I already had.
